Sad news: after losing the game, the head coach of the Michigan team fired their star player.

Former Ohio State Buckeyes star Maurice Clarett believes head coach Ryan Day ought to be fired after the team loses to the Michigan Wolverines three times in a row.

Every season, the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes has one task to complete: defeat the Michigan Wolverines.

A loss on your own is horrible. Losing back-to-back is agonizing. But three in a row? That is just intolerable.

This is a first since the John Cooper era (which he experienced twice), when the former head coach of the Buckeyes lost 10 out of 13 games, with his dismissal eventually being influenced by his struggles against Michigan.

And now, following the team’s third straight defeat to the Wolverines, former Ohio State standout Maurice Clarett is launching a diatribe on Twitter demanding the firing of head coach Ryan Day.

“It’s Ryan Day. I gotta go, but I love you bro,” Clarett tweeted. That’s the reason you get paid millions. Can’t lose three games in a row and get paid $9 million.”

But Clarett wasn’t done with that message yet; he doubled down on his position in a series of tweets.

“I’m kind of happy I’m not too connected to the program in these moments,” Clarett stated. “I don’t have to pretend to be cool among people. Everyone is aware of… Michigan cannot be defeated three times in a row. Since everyone still wants access to the Woody Hayes Center, they simply won’t say it.”

“Beating the BS teams we schedule is of no concern to anyone. In order to get to Michigan and the playoffs, we intentionally play those teams in order to have a strong record. It is covered in the program. You don’t become rich and then lose three straight games against your competitor.”

It’s not as easy as Clarett makes it seem, even if you ignore the fact that Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had lost to the Buckeyes five times in a row and that Day had defeated the Wolverines twice before to the third straight loss.

There are a lot of unanswered things that would need to be resolved before the Buckeyes could fire Day, even if that is what they would like to do.

First and foremost, there would be concerns about who would replace him, then how to pay his $46.2 million buyout, what would happen to the current team, and the potential effects of a coaching change on recruiting.

Put another way, it would be utterly astonishing and, to be honest, absurd for the Buckeyes to forget about Day.

Even though Clarett is quite passionate about the proposal, it is not even close to being a possibility.

If Day decides to go on without you? That is a whole new narrative. However, as of right moment, there’s no sign that Day plans to do that either.
