SAD NEWS ;INJURY RECORD BY GREEN BAY PACKERS KRY PLAYERRobert Tonyan injury: Packers tight end has torn ACL, out for season

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin: Christian Watson led the Green Bay Packers with nine touchdowns in the previous season. With seven, Aaron Jones came in second.

Watson and Jones will share the field for the first time this season on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions.

That is the injury update from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Thursday morning. Naturally, since receiver Romeo Doubs declared on Tuesday that Jones would play and that Watson would also play, this has been the expected outcome.

AY PACKERS KRY PLAYER

Both guys seem dubious on paper. Considering the severity of their injuries, it makes sense that neither player will play much.

In Week 1, Jones was hurt by a hamstring injury after making a 35-yard touchdown reception against Chicago. Jones ran for 41 yards and one touchdown on nine carries in roughly 2 and a half quarters. He also got 86 yards and one touchdown on two receptions. Eleven carries for 127 yards and two touchdowns is that amount.

Assumed as the starting quarterback, AJ Dillon has run 39 times for 107 yards (averaging 2.7 yards) and added three receptions for 25 yards. This translates to 42 touches for 132 yards overall (five more than Jones) and 31 more than Jones.

Despite being expected to be a strength, Green Bay’s running game has performed poorly thus far this season. Three of the team’s rushes have lasted longer than ten yards: Jordan Love’s 24-yard scramble last week, Dillon’s 14-yard reception of a reverse pass on what was basically a screen last week, and defensive back/kick returner Keisean Nixon’s 11-yard run on an end-around last week.

Just four weeks ago, during practice, Watson strained his hamstring, delaying the start of a much anticipated second season. He had a poor start to his rookie season, but in the last eight games, he scored eight touchdowns. He had four plays of at least 45 yards thanks to his game-breaking speed; this season, the team has only had one play of 40 yards or more, Jones’ 51-yard reception against Chicago.
