Tommy DeVito, the quarterback for the New York Giants, reportedly had the opportunity to sign a larger contract as an undrafted free agency than the one he now holds with his current team.
Out of the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, and Giants, the Washington Commanders offered DeVito the highest salary to sign as an undrafted free agent, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. The New York Jets extended an invitation for DeVito to try out.

Raanan stated that the Washington Commanders made the highest signing bonus offer to undrafted free agents. The Giants, Los Angeles Rams, and Chicago Bears were among the other choices. A post-draft tryout was extended to DeVito by the other local team, the New York Jets.”
DeVito chose the Giants over other teams, primarily because they were his hometown team, even if they might have paid him more. In addition, DeVito resides with his parents, whose home is conveniently close to the Giants’ East Rutherford, New Jersey, complex.
Another factor was head coach Brian Daboll, who has helped young quarterbacks turn into stars in the past.
“DeVito chose the Giants in part because of the proximity to his home (it’s 10.5 miles from the team’s stadium and practice facility) and Daboll’s track record with quarterbacks, such as Josh Allen in Buffalo, and Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama,” Raanan wrote.
DeVito has emerged as a fan-favorite in New York. After taking over as the team’s starter in October, he’s had some success on the field and has won over fans with his personality.
The rookie’s journey to the NFL has not been easy. After attending Syracuse for four years, he transferred to Illinois, where in 2022 he had a stellar season passing for 2,650 yards and fifteen touchdowns.
Despite not being chosen in the NFL Draft, he ended up joining the Giants practice squad. Following a string of injuries, DeVito was named the team’s starter; nonetheless, he kept his position even after seasoned quarterback Tyrod Taylor recovered.DeVito is now trying to establish himself more in the NFL. He intends to accomplish this on Monday night at 8:15 p.m. ET when the Giants take on the Green Bay Packers.
