michigan receive a sad news that a Great young man a football coach dies in car accident…
D’Angelo, who met Jones through another assistant, Hillsdale player Garrett Chapel, described Jones as “a great line coach, very intense.” He had a fantastic rap
Ben Jones, a young and promising football player for a Michigan high school, passed away earlier this week in an automobile accident. Jones was thirty years old and the head coach at Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood.
Jones had a stellar prep career, leading Muskegon Catholic Central to a 14-0 record and a Division 8 state title in 2008. After that, he was an H-back and tight end for Hillsdale College before turning pro.
After serving as line coach for Cranbrook under Joe D’Angelo in 2016, Jones took over as head coach for the 2019 season, leading Cranbrook to a 6-4 record and a predistrict loss to Harper Woods. In 2018, Jones worked as head coach under Scott Stewart.
“It’s truly tragic, what a young man, so promising, and he had a lot going for him,” D’Angelo remarked.
Jones worked as an investment counselor for Schwartz & Co. in Bloomfield Hills rather than as a teacher at Cranbrook.
port with children and was an excellent instructor. Children understood exactly where they were with him since he was a competent disciplinarian. I firmly believed that he would carry on the success that Cranbrook had seen in recent years, so when I left, I strongly advised that he take over. Simply amazing, young man.
Steve Graf, the athletic director of Cranbrook and the coach of the receivers and defensive backs, was devastated to hear the news, as was the players, who were notified on Thursday.
Graf stated, “As an administrative staff, we got together and then started reaching out to the boys throughout the day.” There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when we told the kids, and their reaction—which is beyond description—was heartbreaking.
