SAD NEWS;DALLAS COWBOYS RECIVE A SAD MESSAGE THAT THEIR KEY PLAYER IS DEAD
4:00 PM — At the team’s news conference on Tuesday, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy stated that defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins (ankle) and left tackle Tyron Smith (back) are “getting better” and “they have a chance” to play this week against Detroit.
They will not take part in today’s light practice at The Star’s team component.
Hankins has missed the last two games due to an ankle injury sustained during the second half of the team’s victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, while Smith missed the game in Miami due to a back ailment sustained against the Buffalo Bills.
10:30 a.m. When the Dallas Cowboys host the Detroit Lions in Week 17, they will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Tyron Smith and Jonathan Hankins will be the main players on the field, but Stephon Gilmore is also a concern.
Due to a back ailment, Smith was unable to play against the Dolphins on Sunday. According to general manager and owner Jerry Jones, the organization is striving to get Smith back against the Lions. What about Hankins, who had a severe ankle sprain and missed his second game?
don’t know if [Hankins this week] will be available,” Jones told 105.3FM the Fan. “But as the playoffs approach, we’re going to have him.” And this week, we might have him.”
Jones repeated Gilmore’s remarks to the media on Tuesday, saying that although he sustained a rib injury in Miami, it won’t prevent him from playing against the Lions on Sunday night.
Jones declared, “I’m planning on him playing.”2:55 p.m. The Dallas Cowboys announced on Saturday that Tyron Smith would not play against the Miami Dolphins because of a back injury he sustained against the Buffalo Bills last week. But Zack Martin, who was declared eligible prior to kickoff on Sunda, will help the offensive line.
Martin was cleared to play in Miami, where he would take on one of the top defensive lines in the NFL, after suffering a quad contusion in the first quarter against the Bills and leaving the game. He was later listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.
Johnathan Hankins will be absent for the second week as he recovers from a slight high ankle sprain. In an attempt to recover from a dismal run defense performance, the Cowboys have once again promoted Carl Davis from the practice squad.
The Cowboys’ other inactives against the Dolphins are Trey Lance (emergency quarterback), Jalen Brooks, Eric Scott, Deuce Vaughn, and Noah Igbinoghene.

Updates for December 23
1:30 p.m. — Tyron Smith’s absence against the Dolphins is likely to cause more injury havoc for the Dallas Cowboys offensive line, a problem they had during the first trimester of the 2023 campaign.
After being labeled as doubtful for the game due to a back injury sustained against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15, the starting left tackle missed practice this week.
It was agreed on Saturday that he would stay in Dallas for additional recuperation instead of going to Miami with the hopes of playing against the Detroit Lions the following week.
As in the opening part of the season when Smith missed time due to injury, Chuma Edoga will start at left tackle in Smith’s place. Zack Martin (quad), whose status is categorized as uncertain, is being watched by the team.
