REPORT: Georgia Bulldogs HC Kirby Smart Calls Out Current Landscape of College Football After 63-3 Orange Bowl Victory ‘It Needs to be Fixed’

The Georgia Bulldogs smashed the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl last night, 63-3. The Seminoles were without 29 scholarship players due to opt-outs and the transfer portal, resulting in 146 yards from scrimmage in a blowout loss. Despite his team blowing the doors off the Seminoles, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was not too pleased with the product on the field.

After the game, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart spoke at the podium about how the team’s overwhelming victory was caused by opt-outs and the new NCAA transfer portal regulations.

“This needs to be fixed, and people need to see what happened tonight,” asserted Smart. 29 scholarship players were used by the Seminoles, including Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman, two of the team’s top wide receivers. Brock Glenn, their backup quarterback, was also on the field. Less than a week before the Orange Bowl, backup Tate Rodemaker registered on the transfer portal, while starter Jordan Travis sustained a horrific leg injury late in the season.

Smart went on, “It must be fixed. It is quite regrettable that despite having a strong football program and team, they are in this situation.

This postseason, the College Football Playoff committee pulled off an unprecedented maneuver by leaving the Seminoles out of the CFP despite their unblemished record and ACC Championship victory. After going undefeated and winning their conference, Florida State became the first Power-Five club in CFP history to be left out of the four-team playoff field. Rather, the committee selected the Texas Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide, two one-loss teams, as the final two teams to advance to the dance.

Kirby Smart Issues an Ultimatum to College Football: “We had our dudes, and their guys weren’t there. College football players need to make a decision. I am aware that times are changing. Outside of those, though, bowl games will still take place. It’s awful for the kids on the sidelines who had to play in that game without having their entire armament, so people need to pick what they want and what they hope to get out of it. And it had an impact on the match.
