The Packers made a somewhat unexpected move today.

Before playing the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers release a former Super Bowl champion.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reports that cornerback David Long Jr. was released by the Packers.

Long has 96 career tackles, 8 passes defensed, and 1 interception with the Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders, and Carolina Panthers.

He was one of the Los Angeles Rams’ five starting defensive backs on February 13, 2022, at SoFi Stadium, when the team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23–20 in the Super Bowl.

Long recorded four tackles in 50 defensive snaps, all of which came in the first half. One of his career’s high points came during the Rams’ 34-11 victory over Arizona in the postseason, when he returned an intercepted pass for a 3-yard score.

In his six career playoff games, Long has recorded 12 tackles (one for loss) and a pick-six against Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
