Chelsea join Arsenal in the race to sign £60m Everton star during January window
Amadou Onana has been linked with a move away from Everton this season and now a brand new club have joined the race.
One of the key players currently under Sean Dyche is Amadou Onana and he’s been among Everton’s best for a solid year now
His excellent displays have meant that he’s become a target for some of the biggest clubs in England. This list includes Manchester United with a deal with the Red Devils potentially seeing Scott McTominay coming the other way.
Also in talks are Arsenal who are believed to be locked in ‘intensive’ talks over a £60m deal to strengthen their midfield.
This comes the week after it was suggested Everton may have no choice but to sell given its current financial predicaments.
A second FFP sanction next week could trigger the need to sell, but music to Everton’s ears will be a new club are now interested in a deal
Chelsea join the race to sign Amadou Onana
According to a report by the Nieuwsblad Sport, Chelsea have entered the race to sign the coveted Belgian midfielder
Chelsea are showing interest but the report does state that Arsenal have registered the strongest intent of interest.
This is good news if Everton intends to sell, but bad news if they don’t given the financial muscle that Todd Boehly will bring to the table.
Chelsea already boasts an incredibly expensive midfield department and only in the summer spent £105m on Moises Caicedo.
This along with Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia should point toward Arsenal being a smarter choice for the midfielder. Everton meanwhile will be hoping this leads to a bidding war between the two London heavyweights to get the best price possible for Onana.
Selling Onana for the right price could be a good move
Everton need to strengthen the squad however FFP is making them cautious not to so they don’t end up being sanctioned once more.
This is why the sale of Onana could potentially be a smart move as he could see a huge cash influx which makes FFP concerns less prevalent and allows some level of spending in January or the summer.
Everton could benefit from the sale of Onana and so in ways, this added interest is welcomed.
