Detroit lion head coach Dan Campbell  sack two coordinators  because of…….Lions coordinators flattered by interview requests, give shout out to Dan Campbell - mlive.com

ALLEN PARK — No Detroit Lions coordinator has been poached to be an NFL head coach since 1973. Now they have not one, but two of the leading candidates for job openings this month.

Detroit is winning a lot of games, it’s playing good football, it’s playing compelling football, and the league is taking serious notice

“Listen, he’s the best leader I’ve been around I think, regardless of whatever sport I’ve been a part of,” offensive coordinator Ben Johnson said. “It’s really impressive what he’s been able to do. True to himself, demanding, he’s results-driven, but yet his way of delivering a message and getting across what to say, how to say it, at the right time. I mean, it’s really unique and it’s special. I think it’s hard throughout the league, and it’s hard to replicate, to be honest with you.” But more than anything, it’s really just being comfortable in his own skin and trusting and empowering those around him. He’s created an environment here as coordinators, as position coaches, as players where we’re very comfortable, and it helps us be the best that we can be at our jobs.”Lions News: Dan Campbell Speaks Out on 7-Sack Performance Against Falcons

Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn are now regarded as two of the best in the game, and have the interview requests for head-coaching jobs to show for it. The Commanders, Chargers, Titans and Falcons have all requested interviews with both coordinators, while the Panthers have also requested an interview with Johnson.

Johnson interviewed once with the Panthers last year, along with two other openings, and agreed to fly to Carolina for a second, in-person interview with his home-state Panthers. But the Ashville, N.C., native later withdrew his name from consideration after a conversation with his wife, instead electing to return to Detroit to win football games. He had gone to the playoffs just once in his 11 seasons as an NFL assistant, and savored the opportunity to taste success in Detroit. He also savored the opportunity to learn more from Campbell before taking a job of his own
