Newcastle United transfer rumours with Magpies ‘keeping tabs’ on coveted midfielder
Newcastle United are believed to be tracking OGC Nice central midfielder Khephren Thuram. That is according to HITC Football as doubts persist over Joelinton’s long-term future.
Thuram, who can be deployed in a defensive midfield role, has established himself as a key figure in the Nice side. HITC say United are ‘keeping tabs’ on the highly-rated 22-year-old. Thuram was linked with a move away from the French club at the start of the season.
It remains unclear whether Joelinton will commit his long-term future to United. No agreement has yet to be reached with the Brazilian international over a new deal and it appears the Premier League club are looking elsewhere for potential alternatives.
Joelinton is expected to miss the rest of this season due to a thigh injury sustained in their FA Cup triumph at Sunderland earlier this month.
United are long-term admirers of Atalanta star Ederson. Sky Sports say the Magpies could try to sign the midfielder before the transfer window closes.
It has been claimed Steve Nickson, United’s Head of Recruitment, watched Atalanta’s 5-0 win over Frosinone. The Sky Sports report claims Ederson could cost around £35m. Atalanta are keen to make a profit after splashing out £18m on the 24-year-old two years ago.
Eddie Howe is keen to add to his Newcastle squad as they look to finish the campaign strongly but could be hindered by Financial Fair Play regulations.
