After visiting Eugene, former Washington Huskies cornerback Jabbar Muhammad chose the Oregon Ducks over the Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide, severely hurting the Texas Longhorns’ hot streak in the transfer portal on Saturday.

Following reports that head coach Steve Sarkisian took the lead in recruiting Muhammad, making him a top priority for the team, and attempting to seal his pledge in order to prevent the lockdown corner taking other visits, Texas looked to be on the verge of securing Muhammad last week.

Rather than canceling his journey to Alabama to see his old head coach Kalen DeBoer, Muhammad traveled to Oregon, where his pledge was successfully obtained.

Regarding what might affect his choice, Muhammad told Ducks Digest, “I want to be in a system where I can be used in a variety of different ways to show my talents.”

Muhammad chose to enroll with Oklahoma State over five other offers, including those from Colorado and Texas Tech, even though he was not among the top 1,000 players in the country for the 2020 class. After turning into a full-time starter in 2022, Muhammad participated in 31 games for the Cowboys, starting 13 of them. He totaled 71 tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble.

The 5’10, 183-pound player became one of the nation’s top recovery tacklers after moving to Washington, recording 46 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks, and one fumble recovery.
