What about Kevin Stefanski as the future coach of the Cleveland Browns? – Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND, Ohio: No matter if the Browns lost to Cincinnati in the bye week, Kevin Stefanski was not going to lose his job.

Thus, this is not a story about the Cleveland Browns head coach receiving votes of confidence.

It concerns Stefanski’s future; he is currently 11-14 after finishing with an 11-5 record and a playoff victory in 2020. It’s Cleveland here. The Browns are these people. Fire someone when you run out of options and the losses mount.

Stefanski will become the first Browns head coach since Romeo Crennel (2005–08) to remain in the position for at least three years after the season ends. In the twelve years between Crennal and Stefanski, there were seven different coaches.

Although there are things about Stefanski that I dislike, I also think patience is necessary.

GM Andrew Berry stated at his bye week press conference, “Kevin has had to navigate some pretty unique circumstances and some pretty difficult circumstances during his tenure as a head coach.”

When it came to Deshaun Watson, the Browns put Stefanski in a bad situation. Stefanski was questioned about the QB for months as Watson handled his more than twenty legal lawsuits related to sexual misbehavior and awaited a ban.

The coach was unable to respond.

It’s difficult to determine how the Watson trade affected the dynamic inside the club. Perhaps none at all. But when questioned about Watson’s circumstances, it did put some of the teammates on the defensive.
