Leeds United and Sheffield United are expected to contend for a Leicester City transfer.

Leeds United is considering making a last-minute attempt to capture Leicester City’s Harry Souttar.

On the day of the January transfer deadline, Leeds United is thinking about adding Harry Souttar from Leicester City as a defensive reinforcement.
Souttar has made few appearances in the Championship this season as he has slipped in Leicester’s hierarchy.
Sheffield United is vying with Leeds for Souttar’s signature, but if a trade is made, it would be a wise addition to bolster Leeds’ defense.

This January transfer deadline, Harry Souttar has surfaced as Leeds United’s possible transfer target.

The Australia international is reportedly being courted by the Whites to sign a late deal from promotion rivals Leicester City, according to Football Insider.

Leeds has spent the winter market looking for defensive reinforcement.

Although an agreement with Everton for the defender has not yet been reached, a move for Ben Godfrey was pursued.

Approaching the 11 p.m. transfer deadline this evening, the club’s interest in signing Souttar might be a clue that they have moved on to other targets.

Sheffield United has also made inquiries about Souttar, so Leeds will have competition in the hunt to recruit the center-back.

With just three appearances in the Championship this season, Souttar has slid down the hierarchy at King Power Stadium under Enzo Maresca.

The defender is presently representing Australia at the Asian Cup; the Socceroos are in the quarterfinals of the global competition.

He has been a key player for Australia, competing in all four of their games so far.

Souttar made a big-money move to Leicester last January on deadline day in a deal worth £15 million from Stoke City.

The 25-year-old featured 12 times in the Premier League for the Foxes last year, but the team suffered relegation to the Championship with an 18th place finish.

The arrival of Maresca as manager has raised doubts over the player’s future with the club, having been unable to break into his first team plans.

A move to Leeds could get him back to playing regularly, with Leeds also competing for promotion straight back to the top flight.

Souttar has a contract until the summer of 2028, but could be open to his sale due to his lack of game time under Maresca.

In the Championship table, Leeds is presently 12 points behind Leicester, while the Whites are in fourth place.

While both teams have played one more game than their opponents Southampton and Ipswich Town, Leicester leads the way at the top of the standings.

The Yorkshire team is only one point behind the Saints, while Ipswich is only one point in front of them.

The chase for the two automatic promotion spots is expected to be quite competitive, but in recent weeks, the Foxes have comfortably pulled ahead of the trailing group.

Leeds’ next match is a Friday night away to Bristol City.

Leeds’ Daniel Farke
Souttar might be a wise addition to Leeds if Leicester is open to it.

This might be a useful asset to the team if they decide to part ways with the defender, particularly to a contender for promotion.

The extent to which Souttar has fallen in Maresca’s hierarchy has been unexpected.

Although Souttar is a formidable defensive team, Farke’s playing style may suit them well because they are also quite at ease in the ball.

How beneficial of a transfer this could be will ultimately depend on the circumstances of any transaction, but his arrival to the team should improve Farke’s options at the back.
