Saints to Hire 49ers Pass Game Coordinator Klint Kubiak as their OC

SANTA CLARA The 49ers assistant coaches are easily coveted by other teams. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers pass game coordinator Klint Kubiak will be hired by the New Orleans Saints as their offensive coordinator following the Super Bowl, making them the latest team to make this move. Kubiak will continue to coach the 49ers through the end of the season, at which point the hiring will be official. Kubiak played for the 49ers from 2023 until being hired by the Broncos and Vikings. Following DeMeco Ryans to the Texans in the summer, Bobby Slowik, the former 49ers pass game coordinator, was replaced. Slowik was a huge success in his first season as Houston’s offensive coordinator, so it makes sense that the Saints would look to identify Slowik’s replacement.

It’s unknown who the 49ers will appoint to take Kubiak’s place as coordinator of their pass game. As they did with Kubiak the previous year, they may seek assistance from someone outside the company. Alternatively, they may elevate a somebody from within the company, someone who is already familiar with Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme. The possibilities include Brian Griese, the coach of quarterbacks, Klay Kubiak, the younger brother of Clint, the coach of tight ends, and Brian Fleury, the tight ends coach, who just conducted an interview for the open offensive coordinator post with the Patriots. If Fleury doesn’t get hired as an offensive coordinator elsewhere first, I’m assuming he will be the front-runner to succeed Kubiak on the 49ers. The 49ers should be okay with anyone they sign because they still have Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk.
