Falcons fire coach Arthur Smith hours after completing 3rd straight 7-10 season – WWLP

Flory Branch, Georgia. Head coach of the Atlanta Falcons Dan Quinn was unable to conceal his dissatisfaction with Jalen Collins, a third-year cornerback.

Quinn admitted that there were warning signs when he drafted Collins out of LSU in 2015 and that they still exist in terms of his judgment. What bothered him was that Collins never approached his teammates about his “problem.”

Collins, who received a four-game suspension the previous season, was hit with a ten-game suspension this season for breaking the rules on performance-enhancing drugs.

Quinn stated, “Off the field, it’s the trust issues.” “Can we get back to where it could be a trusting relationship both with the team, staff, personnel and basically with the organization.”

When Collins, who started the Super Bowl, was moved to the third-team defense last week, there were concerns expressed.
When asked last week if Collins was in hot trouble with the NFL, Quinn responded with an open-field spin move reminiscent of Devonta Freeman. He was aware that the appeals procedure was stuttering and that his player was under investigation.

When asked why he was practicing with the third team as a starter in the Super Bowl, Collins again denied any problems with the league office.

The punishment was made public by the team on Sunday, August 6.

“I’ll always defend the player,” Quinn declared, holding out hope that Collins’ appeal would be granted. “I don’t think that will alter for those of you who know me. That moment,

I was aware that the league was having problems. I had no idea if it would end up on his side or not. I was unsure whether that would happen in September, August, or July.”

Collins’ situation was unclear, so C.J. Goodwin and Deji Olatoye started practicing with the second team. Collins would have returned to the starting lineup if his appeal had been successful.

“(General manager) Thomas (Dimitroff) and myself made the decision that we would move him until we had further clarity,” Quinn stated. “After that, we might decide what’s best. Therefore, we were defending the team in that situation.”
