The Dallas Cowboy made a very powerful statement.
The extent of Jerry Jones’s involvement in the Dallas Cowboys is widely known by this point. This week, when the ‘Boys interview potential candidates to take Dan Quinn’s place as defensive coordinator, that will be the first priority.
Quinn’s departure for the Washington Commanders left head coach Mike McCarthy’s staff severely lacking. Reporters were informed by Jones himself on Sunday that he will begin interviewing contenders for the position on Monday morning.
Jones did not disclose any applicants for the position. But the fact that he will be participating in the interviews reveals a significant piece of information. He and McCarthy will be coming to a decision. In Big D, there is undoubtedly a strange dynamic.
Two former NFL head coaches are considered to be strong contenders for the position: Mike Zimmer of the Minnesota Vikings and Ron Rivera of the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers. Rumors are also swirling that respected Don “Wink” Martindale will be considered for the position.
It’s clear that Dallas wants experience to take Quinn’s place. Given that McCarthy is regarded as an offensive-minded head coach, it makes sense.
Quinn’s shoes will be very huge for whoever takes over. Over the previous two seasons, he oversaw top-five scoring attacks and was a big contributor to the Cowboys winning 12 games in each season.
Zimmer has to be the clear winner here. In 1994, he took a coaching position in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. From 2000 until 2006, he also functioned as the group’s defensive coordinator.
