With a 131-91 home victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics increased their lead in the standings over the remainder of the Eastern Conference. With Tatum scoring 34 points in the triumph, Boston overcame their most embarrassing game of the year, a home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers without LeBron James and Anthony Davis last week.
Marcus Smart, who was selected by the Celtics in the 2014 NBA Draft and spent nine seasons as a member of the team, made his way back to the TD Garden on Sunday for a game versus the Grizzlies. Despite Smart’s injury keeping him out of action on Sunday, the team made sure to pay tribute to his time there with a video.
Jayson Tatum spoke candidly about his former teammate’s emotional comeback following the game.
“Observing the response he received was fantastic. He was this organization’s lifeblood and spirit. Tatum stated, “Every night, he gave his blood, sweat, and tears,” according to Celtics on NBC Sports Boston on X, a social media site that was once known as Twitter.
Even so, it appears that the enthusiasm and vigor he brought to TD Garden for over ten years will live on in the hearts of Celtics supporters.
After being dealt from the Boston Celtics to the Memphis Grizzlies during the offseason, former player Marcus Smart made his first visit to the TD Garden on Sunday night as a member of the opposing team. As he recovers from an injury, Smart was unable to play on Sunday, but that didn’t stop the beloved Celtics player from talking about all of the important connections he made while he was in Boston.
During his time with the Celtics, Smart’s most well-known colleagues were none other than Boston players Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Prior to the Celtics vs. Grizzlies game, Smart was completely honest about his bond with the “Jays.”
Josue Pavón of CLNS networking said that Smart added, “It’s a special relationship I’ve built with these guys,” on X, the social networking site that was once known as Twitter. “I’ve watched these guys take a lot of flak over the years, so I’m just glad they’re finally getting it together and clicking because I got to watch it every day.”
