Upon the departure of several other Minnesota
You can add another player to the list of 2023 players who won’t be playing in Minnesota this summer following the departure of a couple more Minnesota Lynx players this offseason.
Canis Hoopus has been informed by sources that Nikolina Milić, a forward for the Lynx who was given a reserved qualifying offer last month and is now a free agent, intends to play overseas for the 2024 WNBA season. Although Milić may still consider offers from WNBA teams, sources said that it is more probable that she will sit out the season rather than rejoin the league this summer.
Jess Shepard, the starting center for the Lynx in 2023, will not play in the 2024 WNBA season.
After joining the Lynx in 2022, Milić played in 31 games before re-signing for a one-year contract to play in 39 games with Minnesota in 2023. In 70 games over two years, Milić averaged 5.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and a shooting percentage of 49.8% from the field and 31.8% from three.
After averaging 11.7 minutes per game in 2022, Milić saw her role rise slightly in 2023 compared to her first WNBA season, averaging 12.7 minutes last summer. With the Lynx, she occasionally entered the starting lineup and was selected for three
Milić is presently playing in the Turkey-KBSL with Fenerbahçe, a global powerhouse, alongside fellow Lynx players Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride. Thus far in this offseason, Milić has averaged 9.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 20.4 points over 28.4 minutes in nine EuroLeague games and 8.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over seven Turkey-KBSL games.
A position on the roster will become available in 2024 as a result of Milić’s departure from the Lynx. Cecilia Zandalasini, for example, has reportedly expressed interest in playing in the WNBA and returning to Minnesota for the first time since 2018. Alternatively, Minnesota can try to recruit players who haven’t signed with a team and use free agency to fill that place.
