Giants hired Shane Bowen as defensive coordinator, after holding interview with Dolphins coach
This summer, the Miami Dolphins coaching staff has already seen a number of changes as coaches have left and joined Miami.
The team appointed Anthony Weaver, the associate head coach of the Ravens, as their defensive coordinator last week. But according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the New York Giants wanted to speak with Dolphins linebackers coach Anthony Campanile about a defensive coordinator position, meaning the franchise was going to lose out on Weaver’s possible defensive assistant. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale just left the Giants, and they were looking for his replacement.
But the Giants chose Tennessee Titans wide receiver Shane Bowen, so Campanile remains in Miami (for the time being).
Fans were drawn to Campanile’s contagious enthusiasm and charisma during this year’s NFL Hard Knocks. Campanile joined the Dolphins in 2020 as the team’s linebackers coach. The Dolphins were forced to allow the ferocious Campanile to speak with New York because, according to NFL regulations, teams are not allowed to stop an assistant coach from interviewing with another team for a coordinator position.
Fortunately for the Dolphins, the Giants made a different decision. Campanile remains a Miami Dolphin for the time being.
