James Tavernier get a red card by celtics player because of….
IT’S vital to maintain your discipline if you’re in the midst of a title race which looks like going down to the wire.
But there’s a remarkable disparity when it comes to red cards so far during the 2023-24 season.
That’s because Dujon Sterling’s dismissal from the Rangers was Don Robertson’s decision to send him off for a risky challenge on Aberdeen’s Jack McKenzie. This was Sterling’s FOURTH league dismissal this season.
And during the season, that is actually the MOST of any elite club.
To put things in perspective, the previous time the Gers won the title, they didn’t have a single player sent off during the entire season.
After Leon Balogun was sent off at Celtic Park in December for clearly blocking Daizen Maeda’s goal-scoring opportunity, Sterling received an early bath.
In a contentious match against Dundee at Ibrox, Jose Cifuentes had an early bath.
In addition, Scott Wright was fired for two bookings he received during the 3-1 loss to Aberdeen, ending Michael Beale’s tenure with the team.
In comparison, Celtic has only had ONE player sent off this season—goalie Joe Hart—for taking out Mohammed Sangare of Livi.
Three players from Motherwell, Ross County, and St Johnstone have been sent off, putting them closest to the Ibrox men at the top of the league. Only Aberdeen and Hearts have seen any of its stars red-carded.
Despite having the fewest yellow cards (28), the Ibrox men have the highest red card total in the league.
For a few hours at least, it’s three fewer than Celtic’s 31, given that both teams have played the same number of games.
