Despite having passing their physicals, Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji will not be playing for the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. Following their trade from the Utah Jazz, the two newest members of the franchise will be held out for the first game of Toronto’s back-to-back. When Toronto plays the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night, both players are anticipated to suit up. Going forward, Olynyk and Agbaji provide Toronto with two new rotation players to take the position of Thad Young and Dennis Schröder, who left the team to save money by joining the Brooklyn Nets.
After Jakob Poeltl, Olynyk will take over Young’s position as the floor-spacing backup center. Olynyk’s 42.9% three-point shooting this season should provide Toronto with a new look to throw at opposition teams. Agbaji should eventually play both as Toronto’s backup guard off the bench and in rotation. As a player who can play with Bruce Brown, Gradey Dick, and Olynyk going ahead, he’ll provide Toronto’s second unit some much-needed defensive energy. Without Schröder, Toronto’s main concern will be how the team will allocate its backup point guard minutes. When Immanuel Quickley is not on the court, expect Scottie Barnes to become the team’s main facilitator, according to Raptors coach Darko Rajaković. Brown is going to get a bump.
