Red Bull finished the most successful season in grand prix history in 2023, and now the company is introducing their 2024 F1 vehicle, promising a “bold design” that has competitors quaking in their boots. Max Verstappen has won the F1 drivers’ title for the previous three years.

And yet, the chaos occurring behind the scenes overshadows this evening’s debut, which is scheduled to be live-streamed at 7:30 p.m. Red Bull’s founder and mascot, Christian Horner, is being investigated for allegedly engaging in “inappropriate behavior,” a claim he refutes. Although he is expected to attend the event, the results might cast question on his overall future with the squad.

This occurs in the midst of what appears to be a corporate power struggle, as Horner said    must have lost favor with the Red Bull corporation’s new executive group. With a rule change scheduled for 2026, it has raised concerns about star designer Adrian Newey’s future at a time when he is most needed.

At the launch, don’t expect to hear anything about this or any concerns with Sergio Perez, who left Verstappen as a one-man band for the most of 2023 due to his form loss (although in a car that was admittedly tough to drive).

However, it would take audacity to wager on a team that had such overwhelming dominance at the beginning of the previous season that it could afford to focus on this year’s vehicle early. Although the team is widely renowned for leaving out innovations at launch, shots of the RB20 racing at Silverstone during a shakedown earlier this week reveal some imaginative design around the sidepods, which may have again considerably advanced the game.

Despite Mercedes and McLaren’s ability to catch up to Red Bull’s speed at the end of the previous season,

Test driver and Formula E champion Jake Dennis has stated that the team will have “an extremely fast race car again” in 2024 and anticipates winning the championship again, barring any overnight gains by Mercedes or Ferrari of “about a second [per lap].”

Even if the squad will find it difficult to match its 2023 performance, Max Verstappen’s current form suggests that anything is possible.

Red Bull will live stream its launch event at 7.30pm this evening.

In 2023, the Milton Keynes marque revealed its RB19 in New York City, where it took advantage of the US audience to announce its engine partnership with Ford from 2026 onwards. IT followed up later in the year with a lavish livery reveal in LAs Vegas, featuring an inverted car suspended from the ceiling
