In response to Lando Norris’ reluctance to sign with Red Bull while the Dutch driver is already a member of the team, Max Verstappen has commented.

After publicly flirting with Red Bull and expressing enthusiasm in working together in the future, Norris recently signed a contract extension with McLaren, ending any possibility of the British driver joining Red Bull anytime soon.

Max Verstappen comments on Lando Norris’ choice for McLaren
Verstappen was questioned by Sky on Norris’ remarks, specifically the bit about whether he would find it difficult to surpass the version of himself from four years ago, as he was speaking at the Red Bull RB20 launch in Milton Keynes on Thursday.

Verstappen remarked, “I see that you are a little more composed and experienced now than I was four years ago.”

And it can matter in some situations; winning a championship surely helps too, but it would be thrilling to be my four-year-old self again.

Verstappen said he could see the reasoning behind Norris’ preference not to go up against him, but put it more at the feet of Norris being comfortable within the McLaren environment rather than the British driver being afraid of going up against him.

“But from his [Lando’s] side, I don’t know what’s going on in the team there,” he said.Maybe I don’t need to go and I can make this work, you also say to yourself when you are truly content and self-assured with the people you are with and they have [McLaren] been on a successful path.
