A QB named Justin Fields is selected by the Chicago Bears.

It’s no secret at this point that the Chicago Bears will select a quarterback with the first overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft. Even though Justin Fields had some excellent moments throughout the 2023 campaign, the Bears ultimately decided not to consider the draft as a potential successor because of his lackluster performance.

Caleb Williams, a talented quarterback from USC, is expected to be selected by the Bears with the first choice, but it is their duty to evaluate the other quarterback prospects in the class to make sure Williams is the right fit for their team.

Some of the candidates are apparently being interviewed by the team, but some fans might be surprised by the first individual removed off the list.

Chicago Bears interview quarterback Davius Richard of NC Central as the selection process picks up pace Sports Erik Lambert of Mockery stated that following Davius Richard of NC Central’s strong showing in the Hula Bow, General Manager Ryan Poles and his scouting staff showed interest in the player.

If people were unfamiliar with him or his game, it would make sense. Football players from the top conferences rarely pay much attention to NC Central, a historically black college or university (HBCU). But he made enough of an impression during the bowl that the Chicago Bears are watching him closely.

Lambert went on to describe Richard’s attraction in more detail:

At 6’2″ and 220 pounds, he is of NFL stature. Richard is an exceptional athlete as well. With 630 yards and 18 touchdowns from rushing last year, he demonstrated his dual-threat abilities in a big way. Given that, one may conclude that he is a rush-first person. To believe so would be foolish. Richard has a great deal of ball velocity. It zips out of his grasp, demonstrating its capacity to squeeze through small windows. In contrast to his previous season, he protected the football much better as a senior, throwing 21 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

Even though Williams will probably continue to be the Chicago Bears’ starting quarterback, protecting their bases is a good move. If they believe Davius Richard is skilled enough to matter in the NFL, they might use a Day 2 or Day 3 choice to invest in him in the NFL Draft.
