Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Burrow requested to depart
With a rookie quarterback and head coach, the Texans emerged as one of the NFL’s biggest shocks of the 2023 campaign, winning 10 games and qualifying for the postseason. DeMeco Ryans assembled an extremely strong roster that attracted a lot of interest from teams seeking to fill open positions at the conclusion of the season. Fortunately, Houston was able to turn down offers for two assistants.
Cole Popovich, the assistant offensive line coach, was interviewed by many clubs for the position of offensive line coach at Washington under head coach Dan Quinn. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reports that Popovich will stay in Houston “under a revamped contract,” in spite of the outside interest.
Wilson also revealed that Stephen Adegoke, the safeties coach, was scheduled to leave to take a position teaching defensive backs at the University of Michigan. On the following day, however, he released a second story stating that Adegoke will go back to Houston. Adegoke will be permitted to return for his second season with the Texans because he apparently accepted the Michigan position prior to signing a contract.
Here are some additional staff updates from various locations.
Shane Steichen, the head coach of the Colts, had to reorganize his 2024 staff. According to Mike Chappell of FOX59, the organization decided not to keep assistant defensive backs coach Mike Mitchell, and in his stead, they hired Justin Hamilton, the defensive quality control coach for the Titans. Additionally, Alex Tanney, the Eagles quarterbacks coach, will join Indianapolis to coordinate its passing attack. Tanney, who stayed in Philadelphia following Steichen’s exit, will now meet up with his old employer in Indianapolis.
The recruiting process for the new coordinators by the Titans is now complete. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, special teams coordinator Colt Anderson will be joining first-time coordinators Nick Holz on offense and Dennard Wilson on defense. Anderson, a previousThroughout his nine-year NFL career, the undrafted defensive back got a lot of action on special teams assignments. Anderson will join newly hired Titans head coach Brian Callahan to Nashville to take on his first coordinator role after serving as the Bengals’ assistant special teams coach for the last four seasons.
