Nate Scheelhaase, the offensive coordinator at Iowa State, will join the Los Angeles Rams as a pass game specialist, according to ESPN. For the 2024 season, Scheelhaase will become a member of Sean McVay’s coaching staff, taking Jake Peetz’s place after he left to take a position as the pass game coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks this offseason.
Shortly after his playing career concluded in 2013, Scheelhaase, 33, began his coaching career with his alma university, Illinois. In 2015, he was employed as a running backs coach; from 2016 to 2017, he worked as an offensive analyst.
He served six seasons in a variety of capacities with the Iowa State program after joining the coaching staff in 2018. He was hired by Iowa State to teach its running backs, then the next season, he was transferred to coach the wide receivers.
In 2023, Scheelhaase received a promotion to offensive coordinator. Under his direction, the Cyclones’ offense developed and outscored 2022 opponents by an average of six points per game (20.2 to 26.2). Additionally, with 11 touchdown plays of at least 50 yards, Iowa State topped the country.
Additionally, Scheelhaase oversaw the progress of Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht. After passing for 3,120 yards and 23 touchdowns, the redshirt rookie was named the Big 12 Offensive rookie of the Year. When current San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, a former Cyclone star, was a member of the Iowa State staff, Scheelhaase was also a part of the staff.
