Cincinnati — This summer, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made it apparent that he wanted to sign with one of Cincinnati’s top free agents.

In his first press conference following his November placement on injured reserve, Burrow vehemently backed wide receiver Tee Higgins’ 2024 comeback.

Both Dominic Miller of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lyndell Mays of Raytown, Missouri, are accused with two charges of armed criminal action, unauthorized use of a weapon, and second-degree murder.

The two males were strangers who, within seconds of arguing, drew firearms and started shooting, according to court filings. During a press conference, Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker stated that both men had been shot and were now in the hospital.

Each of them has a $1 million bail imposed against them.

According to police affidavits, the argument started when two groups of individuals got upset because they thought that members in the other group were gazing at them. According to authorities, Mays and his companion aggressively approached the other group as captured on surveillance footage.

Despite being surrounded by large groups of people, including children, Mays was the first person on camera to start shooting, according to one of the affidavits.

Mays admitted to investigators that “he hesitated shooting because he knew there were kids there,” the document said. After hearing someone in the other group say, “I’m going to get you,” he told investigators he started shooting because he thought they were going to try to murder him. According to the affidavit, he said that as the other group member was fleeing, he randomly selected someone to shoot at.

According to one document, Miller first told investigators that he was shot in the rear and that he and his pals had started fleeing after hearing gunfire. Miller acknowledged firing four or five bullets when investigators showed him footage of him pursuing someone in Mays’ group and firing, according to the affidavit.

Lisa Lopez-Galvan was murdered by a gunshot fired by Miller, according to authorities on Tuesday. Per one of the affidavits, Lopez-Galvan was part of a crowd that was watching the Chiefs rally nearby.

Lopez-Galvan’s family released a statement following Tuesday’s news, saying, “It is reassuring for our family and the entire community to know that this joint team effort has resulted in the identification of the suspects involved.”

Court records available online did not identify lawyers who could

remark on behalf of Miller or Mays. The Kansas City office of the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office stated that it has not yet received the men’s applications for public defenders.

Although the men’s ages were not disclosed by the authorities, Mays is believed to be in his early 20s and Miller is either 18 or 19.

The further accusations follow the detention of two minors last week on suspicion of possessing a firearm and resisting arrest. More charges are anticipated, according to the authorities.

“It is important for you to know that our goal is to make each gunman responsible for their conduct on that particular day. Each and every one,” stated Peters Baker. “So, while we’re not there yet on every single individual, we’re going to get there.”

The 22 wounded individuals are from a variety ofage range of 8 to 47 years old, as stated by police chief Stacey Graves.
