One big issue remained unanswered when the Raptors paid a high price to acquire Immanuel Quickley in December.

Those in the organization with the highest decision-making authority questioned if the young guard had what it took to start in the NBA.

They were aware of his talent and where he stood in the New York Knicks hierarchy, but they weren’t positive if he could handle the demands of a starting position, including playing significant minutes each night at a high level, holding his own against the best opponents, and mastering the challenging job of balancing the needs of his teammates with his own success.

Twenty games into his Raptors career, Quickley has already fulfilled a lot ofof the brass on the team’s worries.

The general office, the coaching staff, and his teammates are satisfied with his workload and his ability to play a little off the ball while still surviving on his own.

The next phase is about to begin. The latter few episodes of the season have more to offer.

Now, Quickley needs to show that he is capable of becoming a great NBA starter rather than merely a player who starts every game in one of the five places when no one else can.

That will be another significant leap, and all of his employers will be observing and analyzing every move he makes.

Coach Darko Rajakovic stated of Quickley, “I see a lot of potential, and I see that we are just scratching the surface.” Quickley’s goals are to shoot ten threes per game and balance the other facets of the job.

Never doubt: Quickley has been excellent despite his three-pointThere may be a pause in the firing right now. He’s got a good working relationship with Scottie Barnes, he’s developing a pick-and-roll relationship with Jakob Poeltl, and he’s been getting along with RJ Barrett for years now ever since they moved to New York.

However, there is pressure on him to improve between now and the conclusion of the season because everyone wants to see more consistently excellent play.

He is aware of it.

This week, Quickley said, “The coaching staff was telling me to shoot a lot more; they think I’m passing up a lot of shots.” “It’s a lot, but I’m enjoying learning everything because this is what I wanted to be,” the player said. “I’m still learning when to be extremely aggressive and when to get my teammates involved, the balance of it, how to find guys where they want the ball and things like that, flow of the game, rhythm of the game.”

That’s the crux of the matter, and the reason it makes sense to assume Quickley will do what his superiors ask.

He had a chance because the Raptors acquired an important element inDennis Schröder, the team’s lone genuine danger, was promptly benched in favor of OG Anunoby, and he won’t fail.

A star-studded bust
The NBA all-star game is dead, broken, busted, kaput, according to an unofficial survey conducted recently around the Raptors. That’s definitely not an exhaustive sample size.

They’ve tried everything, including Elam Endings, four distinct quarters with philanthropic components, and teams put together by impromptu and days-ahead drafting. They have attempted to use financial incentives and the pleasure in being genuinely competitive as motivators.

Nothing is effective. The individuals who say, “Hey, it’s an all-star weekend, let ’em have their fun,” are correct that it is broken, but they also fail to understand what everyone else appears to be missing.any enjoyment.

Quick talks on Wednesday led to several possibilities, such as a one-on-one series, a three-on-three format, or an NFL Pro Bowl-style tournament with separate skills events between the East and West groups.

One thing, though, is at least of local interest: Barnes may have contributed to the downfall of one format and may be involved in whatever emerges from the ashes.

Remaining put?
Garrett Temple is one of the most well-liked veterans in the whole NBA, a fantastic teammate, and a mentor to a very young bunch. The Raptors would be well-served by having him back for one or two more years.

Temple will also be seeking employment. During the all-star game, he was re-elected as the NBPA’s vice-president and secretary-treasurer.break and his three-year contract stipulates that he must be a roster player in good standing in order to hold the position of union executive.

It makes sense for him to stay, should he choose to.

Fulfilling their obligations
The Raptors have moved on to another potential after doing a nice deed by providing for a few devoted minor league players. Players and agents will undoubtedly remember their generosity.

The Raptors awarded 10-day contracts to Justise Winslow and Mouhamadou Gueye earlier this week, and on Wednesday they signed G League point guard D.J. Carton to a 10-day contract.

The Raptors paid Winslow and Gueye almost $166,000 (U.S.) for Winslow and nearly $65,000 for Gueye (Winslow’s contract was bigger due to his years of NBA experience). Carton, a sharp shooter from the G League, joined the team on Wednesday.

There is still one roster space available for the Raptors.for grabs, but I’ll hold onto it for a few weeks to see if anyone is removed from an NBA roster before the beginning of March.
