Stephen Curry scores the high 57 points in 2024
I was having a discussion over a couple of days with a member of the Warriors’ brain trust about the optimal usage of Stephen Curry. The volume and situations when Steve Kerr should put the ball in his hands. The benefits of him coming off screens. The point when milking his gravity starts actually helping the defense. The ramifications of turning him into a James Harden (in Houston) type of playmaker. The opportunities for Curry to go iso. How all the options impact his teammates.
Then the Warriors got some updated data after the 20-game mark. It prompted this emphatic conclusion to the discussion:
“No matter what the fuck Kerr does,” the member of the brain trust said, “Steph is gonna score efficiently.”
Fact.
Curry is playing at such an insane level, it doesn’t matter. Off the ball, on the ball, he’s finding ways to leave his fingerprints all over everything and put up the kind of numbers many thought were behind him. The defense ends up getting the business regardless. And when defenses aren’t covering him with three players and forcing the ball out of his hand, he is torching them
