This week, Everton finally got a decision on their appeal about the 10 point deduction they incurred for their Financial Fair Play infraction earlier in the season. The Toffees’ deduction was reduced from 10 to six points, which put them five points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone. Overall, the decision was favorable. Since then, Dele Alli’s return to fitness has given them even more momentum as he may now be able to sign a new deal at Goodison Park.

Despite his struggles off the field and with injuries, Alli is finally on track to eventually return to action. To the surprise of the football community, the England international disclosed in a frank interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap the difficulties he has been having off the field. He described his difficult childhood and his issues ever since.

“He still has a bit to go because he has been out for a long time, he needs a game program, but to get him back with us would be really pleasing for him because he has been so unlucky,” Sean Dyche said in December while discussing the timescale for Alli’s comeback, as reported by The Guardian.

When he was scheduled to participate the last time, 12–13 weeks ago, he was quite unfortunate with the harm that was done. The good news is that he is feeling well and that things are starting to calm down. He said, “I’m feeling great,” when I saw him earlier.

Nearly three months later, it is said that the former Spurs player has made a big step in the direction of a comeback. Alli is back at Finch Farm to intensify his recuperation, according to Patrick Boyland of The Athletic. Everton is now willing to extend an offer to Alli for a new contract, and a return to play before the conclusion of the season is not out of the question.

Although his return to the club’s training ground is only the first significant step towards full fitness and participation in full training, it is still great news for Alli and Toffees fans that he is finally close to doing what he loves most. It is more likely that he will make a comeback during preseason.

Prior to doing anything, though, Everton will need to work out a method to pay Spurs the £10 million that they are expected to owe them should Alli make 20 appearances for the Merseyside team. If the Goodison Park players fail to renegotiate their contract with Spurs and Alli makes 20 appearances, they would further compound their financial difficulties, as he has already made 13 games.

Alli’s ability to play at Everton when he returns to full fitness is yet unknown, but if he does find his best form again, they will undoubtedly have a player on their hands.

Even though they haven’t quite guaranteed their survival, having a player in the lineup who previously stood with legends like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard could be crucial to keeping Everton competitive and possibly even leading them to greater heights in the Premier League.
