“That’s a really good team,” Johnson remarked. “A truly outstanding offensive unit. All we attempted to do was be noticeable during the entire game. We placed a lot of focus on getting off to a fast and successful start.
The Spurs outscored the Pacers 23–11 to begin the game, and they held them at bay the entire time. The Spurs maintained their composure despite Indiana pulling ahead before halftime and briefly taking the lead in the third quarter.
It was encouraging to see the Spurs maintain a strong effort that led to a victory after losing their cool and letting games slip away for several weeks.
Johnson acknowledged that the club learnt from his foolish play last week against the Utah Jazz and that it eventually helped them.
“We’re just trying to build good habits,” he stated. “You learn a lot of things when you lose close games.”
Though the young team is playing with a newfound intensity and determination that should carry them into the offseason, the Spurs have lost their fair share of games this season and shouldn’t be expected to win out in the closing stretch.
