As one might expect, the fallout was intense, with Alabama’s sideline evoking feelings of anguish and annoyance. As the realization that the Crimson Tide’s season had come to an abrupt end set in, tears mixed with adrenaline. And the scenes that followed, both in the locker room and on the field, left Saban with a bad taste in his mouth.

Even though Saban maintains that the Rose Bowl defeat wasn’t the only factor in his decision to retire, he was blunt about how the players’ actions hurt him.

Saban said to ESPN, “I want to be clear that wasn’t the reason, but some of those events certainly contributed.” “The way the players behaved following the game really disappointed me. You must prevail with grace.

.. You must fail the class. We had our chances to win the game, but we failed to do so. Showing your ass, getting angry, throwing helmets, and acting in such a way is not who we are or what our program is about.

It makes sense to lose your composure in a stressful situation, particularly during a high-stakes game like the Rose Bowl. However, Saban didn’t seem very impressed. He even suggested that his retirement decision was influenced by players who were concerned about their future playing time and NIL earnings.

However, let’s be honest. Money talks, and for a while now, it has been softly whispering encouraging things to college football players. The timing of Saban’s retirement appears to be more related to how the game is evolving than to a few irate players throwing helmets.

Perhaps seventy or eighty percent of the players you speak with have two questions in mind: What guarantees do I have that I will play?How much are you going to pay me for the transfer? said Saban. “The foundation of our program has always been the value we can add to your future, personal growth, academic achievement, and development into an NFL player.”

Although Saban is a legend, college football would not function the same without him. He retired from the game at a time when it was changing due to NIL deals and an expanded playoff.
