JUST NOW: The head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals signs a $48.55 million contract with

Three unrestricted free agents Cincinnati Bengals ought to aim for

The new league year, which kicks off on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET, will soon bring free agency.

The Bengals have plenty of cap space—$48.55 million—which allows them to play as active a schedule as they like.

Cincinnati should pursue these three free agents.

The Bengals’ defense has been led by defensive tackle D.J. Reader for the previous four seasons, but his contract expires at the end of the 2023 campaign. Given that Reader will turn 30 this summer, Cincinnati may decide to acquire a younger player for the position, even though he has shown he is still among the league’s best run defenders.According to Spotrac, he is anticipated to sign a $44.75 million, three-year contract ($14.9 million annually). In 2024, though, when a healthy Joe Burrow is back in the starting lineup and prepared to contend for another Super Bowl, he might be open to accepting a hometown discount.

Mike Onwenu, offensive tackle
Jonah Williams, an offensive tackle, was pushed to the right side after left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. was signed in the offseason, and it appears highly likely that he will be going elsewhere in free agency. He even asked the team for a trade, which he later withdrew.

Since Onwenu will be a free agent following the Patriots’ decision to transition tag safety Kyle Dugger instead, he might be the solution. The offensive lineman, 26, is a versatile player., but his primary position is right tackle, which he demonstrated last season by giving up just three sacks.
