Congratulations! The Carolina Hurricanes made a very strong statement.

Stormers sign Jake Guentzel, while the Knights sign Noah Hanifin

As usual, there was an incredible amount of chaos surrounding the 2024 NHL trade deadline. While some of the best teams in the league continued to invest in their future, others loaded up for a possible Stanley Cup run.

Undoubtedly, a significant amount of star power was in motion. The Pittsburgh Penguins trading defenseman Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights acquiring defenseman Noah Hanifin were two of the biggest trades. Still, over the past few days, a significant number of prominent players changed their addresses.

Now that the NHL trade deadline of 2024 has passed, let’s examine the most significant transactions that occurred.

Hurricanes, led by Jake Guentzel, create a wave
By acquiring winger , Jake Guentzelthe Carolina Hurricanes made what was likely the biggest trade deadline acquisition. Guentzel was acquired by the Hurricanes in return for forwards Michael Bunting, Ville Koivunen, Vasily Ponomarev, Cruz Lucius, and two conditional first- and fifth-round picks in 2024 from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With the addition of Guentzel to the roster, it is obvious that the Hurricanes intend to contend this season. Carolina acquires a potent goal scorer who can play whnikov and Sebastian Aho on the team’s top line. Guentzel was sidelined by an upper-body injury, but he has resumed practice, so don’t expect to see him play for the Hurricanes very soon. A player of Guentzel’s caliber rarely becomes available at the trade deadline, so the Hurricanes had to make this move in order to have a chance to advance out of the East come playoff seasonell with Andrei Svec.

Tomas Hertl and Noah Hanifin join the Golden Knights
This year, the Vegas Golden Knights carried on their custom of adding elite players at the trade deadline. The Calgary Flames traded defenseman Noah Hanifin to the defending Stanley Cup winners on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Daniil Miromanov, a 2025 or 2026 first-round pick, and a conditional third-round pick. The Golden Knights will not be able to trade it this year; the first-round pick will be in 2025. In the deal, the Flyers received a fifth-round pick in 2024 as a broker.

As if that weren’t already astounding enough, Vegas pulled off another stunning acquisition in forward H Tomasertl. The Golden Knights sent center David Edstrom along with three draft picks (2025, 2025, and 2027) in Tomase
