Dallas Cowboys Restructure Dak Prescott’s Contract Offering Significant Relief In Cap Space
Dak Prescott was rewarded with a four-year, $160 million contract extension in 2021 and what seemed like a great investment is now turning into a burden for the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott’s cap hit in 2024 was set to be a whopping $59.4 million. Luckily for the Cowboys, the 30-year-old quarterback has been working with the organization to restructure his deal.
A recent post from ESPN’s Field Yates confirmed that Dallas has converted a $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus which is set to lower Prescott’s cap hit to $55.455 million.
For now, there is no news of an extension for the quarterback who has led to Dallas Cowboys to three consecutive 12-5 seasons. Prior to his arrival, the Cowboys had reached the playoffs just once in six seasons between 2010-2016.
Over eight seasons in Dallas, Prescott has an overall 73-41 record. He has thrown for 29459 yards and recorded 202 touchdowns over 114 games with the organization.
Last year, the Louisiana native had an exceptional year and was in the running for league MVP till late in the season. Prescott finished with an impressive 4516 passing yards and lead the NFL with 36 passing touchdowns.
Last week, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones spoke about Prescott’s contract stating, “Dak has been willing to work with us.” The news of the restructured contract will provide the Cowboys with some financial might in an offseason where they have been relatively inactive.
