Whilst the winger has been used sparingly by a stretched Rangers side since, the problem has persisted into the international break.
Ross McCausland to miss Northern Ireland friendly
Now, Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill has confirmed Ross McCausland will miss the upcoming friendly away to Romania.
The Ulster coach has also claimed that Watford loaned Jamal Lewis has been sent back to club training but that both players could yet be involved in the Hampden friendly v Scotland next week.
“Both Ross (McCausland) and Jamal (Lewis) have gone back to their clubs for treatment,” said O’Neill. “But hopefully they will join up with us when we arrive in Scotland for the second game.”
The persistent injury brings back into focus the nature of challenges in Scottish football which routinely go unpunished.
Rangers were furious that Dan Casey – who went on to score the winner in the game – wasn’t shown red for the crunching challenge which has interrupted Ross McCausland’s breakthrough season.
With Philippe Clement also on a one-man mission to improve the nation’s pitches, something tells us the Belgian manager is surprised by the lack of modern thinking north of the border.
Rangers winger’s breakthrough season stunted
As for Ross McCausland, the 20-year-old winger will be disappointed not to be involved against Romania but there is clearly still plenty of time for the kid to make his Northern Ireland mark.
Handed his Rangers opportunity by Ulster legend Steven Davis during the Northern Irishman’s interim stint in charge, the ex-Linfield academy winger hasn’t looked back.

Let’s hope that the international break helps the Rangers winger get over any issues and get back on track this season.
McCausland was one of five Rangers internationals originally called up for duty, with another being added at a late stage this week.
