Former Everton player furiously reacts to the ‘ridiculous’ Bournemouth verdict as VAR is criticized

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was ruled out of the penalty box after Everton was brought down inside the box against Bournemouth.

Martin Keown, a former Everton defender, has criticized the choice to not give Everton a penalty during their 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.

A goal conceded in extended time by Sean Dyche’s team dealt a blow to their hopes of avoiding relegation. Beto took advantage of a mistake made by goalkeeper Neto to cancel out Dominic Solanke’s first goal, giving Everton hope for a late point; but, in the 91st minute, Seamus Coleman turned the ball past Jordan Pickford.

Although he thought there wasn’t enough contact, why would Calvert-Lewin fall in this situation? Tyler Adams just outperforms him now; this is a clip of him. That’s sufficient given how quickly they’re traveling; everything appears different when slowed down. That carries a penalty. Calvert-Lewin is incredibly unlucky in this situation.

But as the game was still scoreless early in the second half, Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams collided with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the penalty area, sending the Everton striker to the ground. The ECHO has learned that VAR Micahel Oliver decided that the contact was too “minimal,” which is why he did not recommend that referee Samuel Barrott revisit the incident or award a spot kick.

Prior to saying, Keown said, “Unbelievable decision.” Really, I can’t believe it. It’s absurd, really.”

“How we don’t get a penalty, I think that is what VAR is meant to do, I don’t know, I think we are all scratching our heads about VAR this season,” Dyche remarked in response to the penalty incident. How is that not given—that is true contact, a proper kick to the shin? They’ll undoubtedly give me a strange interpretation.
