Everton new stadium project hits another landmark as work underway on pitch

The Everton Stadium pitch’s preparations are in place; seeds will be sown there in the summer.

With the pitch preparation currently under progress, Everton’s new stadium project has achieved another significant milestone.

This week, contractors arrived on the site to begin work on the most recent major component of the development. The first task was to remove the reclaimed stone that had been previously laid to give a sturdy base for the heavy machinery needed to build the waterfront monument.

After that, there will be preparations to assist with the installation of elements such as undersoil heating, and plans are to begin sowing grass seed in August.

The removal of the stone layer, referred to as a piling mat, is the first step in pitch preparation. After that, pitch side ducting comes into focus because it’s essential for installing irrigation pipes, drainage, undersoil heating, and match broadcaster cabling. Next, the pitch will be developed gradually.

The pitch development is being overseen by Ben Williams, package manager for Laing O’Rourke, who clarified, saying, “Right now, we are just focusing on the initial stages of those ducting and utility installations.” After that, in July or August, SEL Environmental will make a second appearance to install the root layers, complete the irrigation and drainage system, and build up the layers.

The grass roots will be interwoven with synthetic fibers once the sowing process is finished in early October. The fibers, which will eventually make up around 5% of the playing surface, are made to support the developing grass by interlocking with it.
