Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a player for the Oklahoma City Thunder, committed a late-game violation on Saturday that effectively ended his team’s season.
In a match played at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, the Thunder were defeated 117-116 by the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas emerged victorious in their Western Conference semifinal series, 4–2.
The last seconds of the game saw the Thunder lead 116-115. Gilgeous-Alexander blocked Mavericks guard PJ Washington’s game-winning three-point shot with only 2.1 seconds remaining on the clock.
The Thunder lost after making the contentious choice to contest the call. Washington completed two of his three free throw attempts to give the Mavs the series win.
When asked about the game-winning foul at his postgame news conference, Gilgeous-Alexander, who is normally a stoic individual, looked nervous. The second-place MVP also said that he isn’t ready to see a replay of his error yet.
“I ought not to have fouled him,” Gilgeous-Alexander remarked. “We discuss it all year long. the minute details that contribute to discipline and game winning. It’s awful. I am unable to view [the replay]. I’d prefer not to look at it.

As the top scorer going into Saturday’s match, Gilgeous-Alexander has led OKC in scoring during all nine of this season’s playoff games. The former Kentucky player topped all scorers in Game 6 with 36 points and 8 assists on 14/25 shooting, demonstrating that this didn’t alter.
