Adrien Rabiot is already being considered by Man United for a summer free move.

Every summer it seems like Manchester United is being linked to a bid for Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman is back in the news again, obviously trying to improve the club year after year.

Rabiot has a contract that is ending this time. He therefore holds all the cards and the ball is firmly in his court.

An update on that front has been supplied by Tutto Juve (in Italian). Though it won’t be simple, it appears that United has “already inquired” about signing the 29-year-old midfield player this summer on a free transfer.

In an apparent attempt to enable Juventus to make a sizable offer in an effort to retain the Frenchman in Serie A, Rabiot will hold “priority” discussions with his present team.

If Rabiot decides to leave Italy this summer, United, Bayern Munich, and Aston Villa are all considering moves to sign him.

I get the impression that Rabiot will follow the money. United has no intention of spending a lot of money this summer. Considering that, I’d be shocked if the Old Trafford team is even close to the front of the line for this deal.

To even consider a transfer to a team that does not have Champions League football on the menu, the midfield player will demand a huge weekly salary. I doubt INEOS will agree to do that, especially given their goal to make a statement this summer about how the days of overpaying for these middle-tier players are over.

My intuition is that, following protracted talks, Rabiot will ultimately agree to a new contract with Juventus.
