Tottenham hold formal talks with La Liga club for 28-year-old playmaker

Real Betis have held formal conversations with Tottenham Hotspur about signing Argentine attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

El Mira reports that Real Betis is looking to re-sign Giovani Lo Celso for next season. The attacking midfielder appears to be surplus to requirements at Tottenham, and the Spanish club is hoping to take advantage of the situation.

Lo Celso’s time at Tottenham will end soon

Giovani Lo Celso joined Tottenham in the summer of 2019 from Real Betis. It was an initial borrowing agreement that became permanent the following summer. The North London club paid a considerable price to have him on their roster. Unfortunately, the move did not go as planned, as the 28-year-old has struggled to establish himself at the English club.

He’s already had several loan spells in Spanish in previous years. While he was a member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the 2023/24 season, the Argentine international was far down the rankings. He appeared in up to 24 games across many tournaments, but he played less than 600 minutes in total.

The 28-year-old is dissatisfied with his lack of playing time and is considering leaving the club. Meanwhile, Tottenham are looking to strengthen their team in the summer, and they are willing to permit a few departures.

to raise funds.

Real Betis keen on Giovani Lo Celso

Lo Celso’s contract expires after a year. As a result, this could be an excellent opportunity to reclaim some of the money they spent to sign him. Real Betis have surfaced as a prospective destination for the player, as Spurs ponder selling him.

The Spanish club is about to undergo a significant overhaul, with several of its key players leaving. They want to make sure they bring in the correct successor. Lo Celso is one of their goals as they aim to maintain their midfield capabilities, with Nabil Fekir poised to move.

Real Betis has already undertaken official negotiations with Tottenham in an effort to bring the Argentine back to the club. While the London club’s financial demands may make things difficult for them, the Spanish are desperate to secure his services, and they believe Lo Celso’s desire to return will help them reach an agreement with Spurs.
