Fabrizio Romano now confirms Newcastle United are about to make a signing

This summer’s transfer market has already given Newcastle United a blow.

In fact, Newcastle’s disappointing season continued on Saturday when it appeared that Chelsea had the upper hand in the hunt to acquire Tosin Adarabioyo.

The Fulham defender’s contract was about to expire, and although the team was convinced they would sign him, the Blues have intervened to hijack the deal.

Eddie Howe, who was rumoured to want the 26-year-old to bolster his defence next season, will undoubtedly take a hit from that.

Given Newcastle’s FFP restrictions, signing a seasoned Premier League centre defence on a free transfer who was about to enter his peak appeared like a great chance.

But whatever is done is done now, and fortunately for Newcastle supporters, Fabricio Romano has provided a more upbeat update.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Newcastle are about to sign Lloyd Kelly

Newcastle has also held discussions with another free agent in addition to Adarabioyo.

Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth, who collaborated with Howe on the south coast, will be departing from The Cherries following the expiration of his contract.

It was long assumed that Newcastle would be the favourites to sign Kelly, but happily Romano thinks that there is now very little chance of the deal being hijacked.

“I can confirm that Lloyd Kelly will be a Newcastle player next season. We’re still waiting to finalise the agreement, but Lloyd Kelly has already said yes to Newcastle,” Romano said in a YouTube video.

According to what I’ve been told, then nothing strange can occur. The takeover of Chelsea in the instance of Tosin Adarabioyo is accomplished. As I indicated earlier, a lot can happen with free agents until the very end, so let’s wait for the formal formalities. However, the player is prepared to say yes to Chelsea.

Why Newcastle fans should be slightly worried about Lloyd Kelly

Getting close to a deal is very encouraging, especially in light of the Adarabioyo news.

Though Kelly is obviously considered highly by Howe, there are some concerns about the defence.

He has missed 81 games since joining Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2019 due to a variety of hamstring, calf, and muscle problems.

That is not enjoyable reading, especially in light of St. James’ Park’s ongoing injury crisis from the previous season.

Hopefully, Kelly’s experience on Tyneside will be different.
