Everton confirm midfielder departure amid raft of exits and new contracts

Everton has announced the departure of several young players, Lewis Warrington among them.

A number of academy products, including the young midfielder who made his Premier League debut in the season’s final home game, have not received offers for new contracts. The 21-year-old, who joined the club as a schoolboy, is leaving after 15 years.

Warrington made his transition from season ticket holder to Premier League player in the victory over Sheffield United last month. He had pleased former boss Frank Lampard during a pre-season tour of the USA in between successful loan spells at Tranmere Rovers and Fleetwood Town.

The center midfielder was praised by Everton manager Sean Dyche after making an appearance as a second-half substitute, saying, “He’s been terrific.” This young athlete has a great mindset, trains extremely hard, gives his all, and it was fantastic to just get him on. It was good to have him on, even though it was just briefly.

Warrington was not used as a substitute in the season’s last match at Arsenal, therefore that was to be his last action for the team. Along with him, Mackenzie Hunt, Kyle John, Ed Jones, Dylan Graham, and Katia Kouyate—who scored in the team’s victory over Stade Nyonnais during the preseason—will also be leaving.

The Under-21s’ Roman Dixon, Bradley Moonan, Jacob Beaumont-Clark, and the England elite squad (previously the U20s) have all been granted fresh contracts by the club. To help the midfielders with their injury recuperations, Sean McAllister and Liam Higgins will stay with Everton temporarily.

Professional contracts have been signed by Matthew Apter, Callum Bates, Jack Butler, Coby Ebere, Odin Samuels-Smith, Jack Patterson, and Martin Sherif for the U18 team. Both defender Danny Maher and goalkeeper Sebastian Jensen will depart at the end of this month’s contract.
