Aston Villa storm into race to sign Man Utd target as shocking new price-tag is revealed

Aston Villa has joined the fight to recruit Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, despite significant competition from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.

With Unai Emery’s team preparing for Champions League action next season, the club will be looking to bolster their roster across the board.

Given the busy game list that Aston Villa will face next season, it’s understandable that they’re trying to add some much-needed depth to their team.

The Villains have verbally agreed to sign Ross Barkley from Luton Town, and have also been linked with Conor Gallagher and Matteo Guendouzi.

Along with bolstering their midfield, Emery is also looking to improve their defensive options ahead of the next season.

Tyrone Mings missed much of 2023/24 due to an ACL injury, while Diego Carlos and Pau Torres both sustained injuries during the season.

According to L’Equipe, Aston Villa has joined the competition to sign Toddibo, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Nice may have reduced their asking price for the French defender, which was originally estimated to be over £40 million.

According to L’Equipe, Todibo might be sold for as low as €25 million (£21.3 million), making it a terrific value for any buying team.

Todibo hints at his next location.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the French defender, although their absence from the Champions League next season could impede the deal.

Todibo has made no secret of his desire to play at the highest level, both domestically and on the European stage. Given that Aston Villa can give him Champions League football next season, they may have an advantage against Erik ten Hag’s team.

“I want to win titles and play in the best European competitions,” Nice’s defence told reporters last month.

“These are my ambitions. I’d also like to join a club that will help me improve and flourish as an individual. That is what intrigues me.

“Honestly, I am open to joining any league. I watch almost every league, and each one has the potential to pique my interest. I’m not fixated on which league to join.

“Can I succeed in the Premier League? Yeah, I think so, and I believe I could excel in any league. Is it possible that my chances align best with the Premier League? There is a chance, indeed.”

In addition to Aston Villa and Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, and Tottenham have recently expressed interest in the 24-year-old.
