Report: ‘Elusive’ player who Newcastle have discussed signing will cost them at least £60m this summer

Newcastle United have discussed making some intriguing acquisitions this summer, but they will not be cheap.

The Magpies are searching for players to push them to the next level. They aim to qualify for the Champions League next season after losing out on Europe this season.

To do this, Eddie Howe requires quality, especially in the final third. The team has considered signing Jarrod Bowen and Michael Olise, but their costs are expected to be prohibitive. Additionally, Olise’s lack of Champions League experience may make a transfer unlikely.

Newcastle United have considered signing Eberechi Eze.

Newcastle had explored recruiting Olise’s Crystal Palace teammate, Eberechi Eze, who will represent England at Euro 2024 alongside Toon stars Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier.

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce previously attempted to recruit Eze, and the 25-year-old is now being connected with the club once more.

Newcastle fans were enthralled with Eze’s performance for England at St James’ Park earlier this week, and many wished to see the ‘elusive’ striker more often.

How much will Eberechi Eze cost this Summer?

However, Newcastle United’s owners will have to delve deep into their resources to make this possible.

According to a fresh Daily Mail claim, a release clause in Eze’s contract reveals the amount Newcastle will need to spend to sign the England international.

The Daily Mail reports that Eze’s deal includes a £60 million release clause. Furthermore, there could be an additional £8 million in add-ons.

That would bring the total fee to £68 million, more than the Magpies paid for Alexander Isak two years earlier. Newcastle paid £63 million for him from Real Sociedad, making it the most expensive transfer in the club’s history.

Eze to Newcastle is an unrealistic dream this summer.

With at least £60 million required to move Eze away from Selhurst Park, it is tough to see him coming to St James’ Park.

Newcastle clearly wants a big deal this summer, but it would be surprising if it was Eze.

The majority of the Magpies’ budget is likely to go towards a right winger, which Eze is not. A move would only make sense if Eddie Howe intended to shift Gordon to the right to allow Eze to play on the left.

While Eze is an extremely gifted player, it appears unlikely that he will move to Tyneside until next season.
