Aston Villa can now sign player Steven Gerrard targeted for £50m on free transfer

Steven Gerrard considered bringing the midfielder to Aston Villa in the summer transfer window of 2022.

Aston Villa may consider signing Wilfred Ndidi as a free agent to improve their team for the upcoming season.

Villa will compete on four fronts next season after winning a place at the elite of European football. Unai Emery will need a better squad to guarantee Villla’s Champions League campaign doesn’t jeopardise their Premier League form.

They must develop their squad while adhering to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).Villa may need to dispose assets by June 30 to meet compliance requirements.

Ndidi’s contract at Leicester City expires at the end of this month, making him an inexpensive alternative to bolster Villa’s midfield.Leicester are negotiating a new contract with the Nigerian player, although the 27-year-old has the option to go for free.

Ndidi was revived in the Championship last season, playing in a more advanced midfield position. He scored four goals and assisted five times as Leicester won promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Villa targeted him in 2022 during Steven Gerrard’s tenure as manager.Villa reportedly considered a £50 million bid for Ndidi that summer.

Nididi was considered an option to Yves Bissouma, whom Villa pursued before joining Tottenham Hotspur. Gerrard instead pursued Boubacar Kamara, signing the Frenchman on a free transfer from Marseille.
