Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted the Merseyside giants are going to have to sell some of their star players this summer to resolve their profit and sustainability (PSR) issues.

Speaking on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old said that the conversation about Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jarrad Branthwaite leaving Everton has cooled off after they were both linked with moves. The two were CEOs of Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and currently operate a football consultancy that advises elite clubs.

Despite Everton’s previous insistence that some of its big names won’t have to depart, Wyness is certain the club will have to let go of players once the transfer window reopens.

It will be necessary for them to balance the books.

“No, we don’t have a problem, we don’t have to sell,” the club has been making some really confident sounds.

However, you wouldn’t say that, would you? That is always the case when negotiating.

“It appears that selling will be necessary to permanently address the PSR issue. The £61 million question is who it will be.

“There’s been no news about Dominic Calvert-Lewin moving to Newcastle, and there’s not much information regarding Branthwaite’s move either.

“As far as active transactions go, there really isn’t anyone there.

“But there’s no denying that many conversations will take place behind the scenes.”

Meanwhile, Everton is “confident” about the midfielder deal as Tottenham makes a move.
