One journalist claims that Newcastle United is almost done finalizing a transfer for a player valued at £20 million.

Newcastle transfer rumours

In 2022–2023, the Magpies qualified for the Champions League and advanced to the League Cup final. In contrast, their 2023–2024 campaign was a bit of a letdown. Their form during the season was heavily impacted by their ongoing injury problems. The North East team eventually managed to pull together a run of wins to finish seventh in the Premier League; however, Manchester United’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City means that St James’ Park will not host any European games next season.

Eddie Howe and company will therefore undoubtedly be keen to bolster this summer as they try to reclaim Champions League football. Lloyd Kelly, an out-of-contract defender for Bournemouth, has already signed with Newcastle; it is believed that he signed a five-year contract.

Ferran Torres has been linked to a move to St James’ Park, and Barcelona may be prepared to let him go, so he is one of the potential acquisitions still on the table. Before the 2024–2025 season begins, Juventus’ Samuel Iling-Junior is reportedly expected to join the Magpies, and former Arsenal player Matteo Guendouzi is also said to be of interest.

Newcastle close to signing “terrific” £20m player

After acquiring Kelly, it now seems Newcastle is nearing completion of their second summer acquisition. James Trafford, a goalkeeper for Burnley and England, appears to be traveling north.

The 21-year-old had a difficult first season at Turf Moor after joining the Clarets from Manchester City in the summer. With a -37 goal differential, Burnley was demoted from the Premier League, and Trafford himself only managed two clean sheets in 28 league games this season while giving up 62 goals.

In spite of his setbacks on the field, Trafford appears to have a promising career ahead of him. He was included in England’s preliminary Euro 2024 roster until being dropped earlier this month. In December 2023, following a 2-0 loss to Liverpool, the keeper was described as “terrific” by former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany.

Despite Trafford’s problems in 2023–2024, Newcastle is reportedly still a fan of his. Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that the Englishman is close to moving to St. James’ Park, with the Clarets requesting a £20 million transfer price.

According to Jacobs, via TBR, “There’s opportunism not just because Burnley has failed but also because they lost their manager, Vincent Kompany.”

“Moving to Fulham would be highly desirable there (for Jacob Bruun Larsen).” The only negative is that, based on what I’ve been told, James Trafford’s transfer to Newcastle is almost complete. Burnley is requesting a £20 million transfer fee, and they will own a larger market share.
