According to HITC, Everton has discussed signing Mats Hummels on a free transfer this summer with his agent.

The news agency reports on its website (17 June) that the World Cup winner’s representatives had made an offer for the player’s services after he left Borussia Dortmund at the end of his contract.

Hummels is eager to join the Premier League, and after speaking with a number of teams in the league, including the Toffees, about a transfer, they are currently considering whether to submit an offer or not.

Mats Hummels will join Everton on a free transfer?
Although Everton is now facing numerous financial difficulties, Dan Friedkin is expected to acquire the team from Farhad Moshiri in the near future.

Apart from that, though, the club can always bolster their roster through free transfers, as they were able to do with Ashley Young last summer, who brought skill and experience to the team.

With a huge pedigree, Hummels would arrive and still in his prime, having played a significant role in Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final just a month ago. However, at 35 years old, he is past his prime, and it would be a strange choice given that Jarrad Branthwaite is someone the team is keen to maintain and James Tarkowski is a favorite of Sean Dyche.

It could be wise business to bring Hummels in as a temporary substitute in case Branthwaite moves on for the enormous money the team is expected to earn for him, but it won’t be easy to close the transaction and is extremely unlikely to occur.
