Ben Jacobs has said that he expects Manchester United to make an approach for rumoured Tottenham target Max Kilman this summer, revealing that the club have been discussing a move for the Wolves defender since April.
Max Kilman could be set to leave Wolves this summer
Tottenham is still being linked to a number of central defenders, and the Lilywhites’ top candidate at the position is still up in the air.
Kilman is among the most recent names to be linked to the Spurs team. Last week, Spurs insider Paul O Keefe revealed to the Last Word on Spurs podcast that Ange Postecogolou’s transfer wishlist included the 27-year-old as well.
The center back’s contract at Molineux expires in four years, but O’Keefe reports that the North London team may try to sign him before the summer transfer deadline to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
GiveMeSport confirmed Tottenham’s interest in Kilman a few days ago. The source also stated that Man Utd, who had conceded to Jarrad Branthwaite, were prepared to make a play for the Englishman.
In the competition for the Wolves stopper, Jacobs has now added the Red Devils to his list of teams to watch, saying that the seasoned defender is anticipated to cost approximately £45 million.
Ben Jacobs makes transfer prediction
“I would keep an eye on Max Kilman, who Manchester United has discussed since April,” the journalist said to GiveMeSport.
“Wolves don’t want to lose their captain, but if they do, it’s going to be for around £45m, so even though it’s expected that he could leave for West Ham and a reunion with Julian Lopetegui, the amount that Wolves would sell for could be too much for West Ham.”
“And it’s possible that West Ham leaves at that score, potentially creating an opportunity for Manchester United.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Strangely, Jacobs does not appear to believe that Tottenham is among the front-runners for Kilman’s signature. This makes sense, as it would be absurd to shell out between £45 and £50 million for a fourth-choice center-back. Radu Dragusin’s strong play at the end of the previous campaign and in the Euros has further diminished Spurs’ need for a new center-back.
If Tottenham needs the money more up the field, they’re more likely to spend it on a younger, less seasoned defender than on Kilman.
